NATIONAL SEARCH DOG ALLIANCE

Election Process

The Nominations Chair may not be up for election. In order to cast a vote, a person must be a member of record as of April 15th of the year.  In order to be seated on the Board, a candidate must be a member by April 15th of the year. All candidates must be a member of NSDA before being placed on the ballot.

Any individual voting member may contact the Nominations Chair between April 15th and May 1st. to request to be placed on the ballot.

The Nominations Chair will submit to the Board a slate of one or more voting members from each voting region no later than May 5th each year.   Ballots and candidate information will be made available to the Board and the members before May 15th.

Votes will be cast between May 15th and June 5th each year in a manner to be determined by the Board.  Votes will be tabulated within 10 days of the close of elections by the Nominations Chair and verified by the Secretary.  All members in good standing shall have one vote for the position to be filled from their region.

As of June 15th each year, the candidate with the greatest number of votes from their
region shall be declared elected from that region. In the event of a tie, the candidates
will be submitted to the membership of that region in a run-off election to be held at the earliest practical date.

Please be aware that our current Bylaws state that the term of office is for two years.  We foresee that a ninth Director will be added to the Board and that the terms be increased to three years.  This is necessary in order to be in compliance with the rest of our Bylaws, which state that one third of our Directors will be elected each year.  Two year terms and eight people do not permit this.

In 2008 only, a fourth candidate will be elected for a term of two years, even if the Bylaws change the terms to three years.  This is necessary to balance our re-election process.  The winning fourth director will be determined by the highest ranking second place candidate from among all three regions.

Directors shall be seated beginning with the commencement of New Business at the
Quarterly Membership Meeting following the election and serve through Old
Business at the Second Quarterly Membership Meeting two years hence.
