NATIONAL SEARCH DOG ALLIANCE

Election Candidates

Region I Candidate Bios

Cameron Daggett

I live in southern Idaho in an area known as the Woodriver Valley.  We are generally recognized as the home of the world famous Sun Valley Ski Resort.  I have lived and worked in this area since 1974.

I came to this area to be a ski bum a few years after college.  That lifestyle did not really suit me and I soon became a police officer for the City of Sun Valley.  I worked my way through the ranks and became the Chief of Police in 1986.  I am still employed in that capacity and think that my professional experience managing a resort police department with international clientele and a diverse community work force will be an attribute on the board of this organization.

I very much believe in teamwork and the K9 component.  I recognize the importance of the national standard and an organization that can support and promote K9 SAR excellence.  In my professional life I have worked on statewide committees as well as local committees to ensure those important qualities are available in my profession and community.  If elected to this Board I will do all that I can to bring those same important qualities to NSDA.

I have been active in SAR work since 1980, active with K9 SAR since 1986.  In 2003 we formed the Blaine County K9 SAR Unit under the Sheriff’s SAR team and I was appointed the unit leader, a position that I still hold.  We certify to both local and national standards.  We have 14 dogs that work avalanche in the winter, 6 of which continue to work year round in area search, trailing, & HRD.  I have assisted in developing all of our local standards.  I participated in forming the NSDA K9 Avalanche criteria this past year.

Cris Goodhue

I, Cris Goodhue, would like to enter my name for nomination for the board of NSDA.

I am very happy to see a new organization that is attempting to improve education, standards, and the world of search dogs.  Honestly, I have been frustrated with past K9SAR associations and am happy to see a new organization.

I love organizing and improving things that I am passionate about, like search dogs.

I have initiated and structured three search dog units over the years, along with providing bylaws and standards for these organizations.

I have been both President and/or Training Officer for different groups for over 15 years.

In this area, we have a “Tri-State” standard, which includes the majority of search dog teams in the states of Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah.  I created and initiated this standard for the following reasons:

  • To provide LE agencies with one standard for numerous dog teams, instead of several different standards that they don’t have time to read.
  • To establish an annual testing weekend.  This allows all dog handlers to get to know each other and their dogs.  This also allows us to watch other K9 teams work, which is very beneficial at a search incident.

This has been very successful and we now have 14 dog units who have adopted this standard.

Thanks you for considering my nomination for the board of NSDA.  If elected, I look forward to working with the rest of you and doing whatever I can do to help promote NSDA.

Sue C. Wolff

When not volunteering for search and rescue, my paid employment has centered on administration and budget management.  Working within the small business environment, I have been President of W/W K-9 Services, Inc. and Vice-President of G & A Security Consultants, Inc.

On a larger scale, I am a sixteen-year veteran of the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Fire Department.  My assignments consisted of:

    • Budget Coordinator managing $14 million Fire Department funding.
    • Supervisor overseeing nine human resource and Department support staff.
    • Personnel Coordinator for hiring process of all personnel including extensive background checks of applicants.
    • Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief of Suppression and Assistant Chief of Administration.

Presently my non-paid employment consists of the following:

  • Editor of the National Search Dog Alliance (NSDA) Newsletter
  • Interim Treasurer for NSDA.
  • Secretary/Treasurer of Tennessee Special Response Team-A, Inc., (TN SRT-A) a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.  Duties include:
  • Training and supervising members in search and rescue tactics as well as K-9 handling.
  • Conducting in-depth background checks of potential members and presenting written results to the Membership Committee.
  • Ensuring compliance with IRS regulations and codes.
  • Planning yearly budget.  Projecting expenditures.  Seeking funding.  Requesting contributions through the grant process.
  • Maintaining current state and federal licensing as well as tax-exempt status.
  • Keeping TN SRT-A records including personnel files, Team training and attendance.
  • Creating monthly financial reports and accounts of searches as well as Preventative Search and Rescue (P-SAR) functions.
  • Writing, publishing and disseminating the Team newsletter to members and interested groups via the Internet or mail.

In addition to my Associate Degree from Stratford College in Danville, Virginia, I have continued my education by taking numerous management and financial classes.  I also hold many search and rescue certifications as well as DOT Medical First Responder and have an FCC Amateur Radio Operator license, KF4HXT.

Since the inception of NSDA, the organization has grown both nationally and internationally.  Even after all the canine standards are written and certifications issued, the organization must continue to grow and change.  Growth is necessary to keep from stagnating.  Growth is essential to keeping up with changing times.  But growth must not be accomplished at the expense of values, something which has happened with other national SAR organizations.  I do not foresee that taking place in NSDA.  I will always fight to keep it from happening so that NSDA will be the true Voice of K-9 search and Rescue
